BRUNSWICK — A “topping off” ceremony at the new Mölnlycke building construction site was held earlier this month at Brunswick Landing, according to a news release.

This traditional ceremony represents a major milestone in the construction of the 79,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and celebrates the placement of the last structural beam.

The event was attended by representatives from Mölnlycke Health Care, PC Construction Co., Harriman Associates, Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, Coastal Enterprises, officials from the town of Brunswick, and Bangor Savings Bank.

Jim Detert, site director for Mölnlycke Health Care in Wiscasset and a member of the team responsible for the new facility, briefly addressed the crowd. He thanked all the contractors involved, especially the crew from American Aerial of Falmouth for completing the steel work in 25 working days.

The attendees and construction workers from American Aerial signed the beam before it was hoisted into place with the Swedish and American flags, and a pine tree.

The new facility will use the medical foam produced at the Mölnlycke Rynel factory in Wiscasset and add additional materials to fabricate Mölnlycke Health Care’s product line of advanced wound care dressings for sales worldwide and especially in North America, including many hospitals in Maine.

The new facility will employ 60 to 80 people, with recruiting and hiring already started for select positions.
