FREEPORT — Freeport police have dropped operating under the influence charges against 22-year-old Jacob Gary Crone, of 10 Marvin Way in Freeport, after a breath test came in under the legal limit.
Lt. Susan Nourse of the Freeport Police Department said that Crone was arrested after being stopped for speeding on Durham and Pownal Road around 1 a.m. March 31. Police took him into custody after administering a field sobriety test.
Crone was taken to the police station where his breath test results came back below the limit for an OUI and he was given a ride home.
In some cases, Nourse said, the breath test is not the make-or-break factor in police filing OUI charges, depending on the type of traffic violation and driving behavior at the time of the traffic stop.
Nourse said that Crone received a warning for the traffic violation.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
