CUMBERLAND – Paul Witte had four goals and two assists Thursday to lead Greely to a 9-2 victory against Freeport in a Western Maine Conference schoolboy lacrosse game.
Thursday was the opening day of high school spring sports in the state.
Brooks Belisle added two goals and two assists for Greely. Matt Crowley also scored twice.
CAPE ELIZABETH 20, LAKE REGION 0: Thomas Feenstra had five goals and Alex Bornick added three as the Capers won at Naples.
MARSHWOOD 10, SOUTH PORTLAND 4: Justin Hockney scored four goals to lead the Hawks at South Berwick.
Jeff Hatheway added three goals and an assist, and Matt Scremin scored twice for Marshwood.
KENNEBUNK 16, NOBLE 1: Sean Foley, Nick Ames and Pat Rimmer each had three goals, and Harrison Hall contributed five assists for the Rams at North Berwick.
Blake Dowe and John Grillo added two goals apiece.
Alex Wiggins stopped 12 shots and Jake Guimond scored for Noble.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 10, WELLS 4: T.J. Daigler had three goals and three assists to lead the Panthers at Yarmouth.
BONNY EAGLE 5, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Nick Adkins and Nate Hopkins scored two goals apiece to lead the Scots at Fryeburg.
Derek Driscoll also scored and Robert Nejad made nine saves for Bonny Eagle.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
CAPE ELIZABETH 19, GREELY 8: Lauren Steidl scored five goals to help the Capers win at home.
Talley Perkins added three goals and Elin Sonneson made nine saves for Cape Elizabeth, which led 10-5 at the half.
Greely got two goals each from Audrey Parolin, Cameron Keefe and Julia Mitiguy.
FALMOUTH 12, YARMOUTH 2: Alex Bernier had three goals and three assists, and Molly Ryan added three goals for the Yachtsmen at Yarmouth.
Erica Pierce and Mo MacNaboe scored, and Jordan Brown made eight saves for Yarmouth.
YORK 12, FREEPORT 11: Alexa Bando converted a free position score with 10 seconds left to help York win at home.
Bando finished with three goals. Ruby Cribby led York with four goals.
Meredith Broderick paced Freeport with four goals and one assist. Alex Mitch had three goals, and Jess Hench added two goals and an assist.
BASEBALL
FREEPORT 11, YARMOUTH 1: Sawyer Williams and Josh Weirich combined on a no-hitter, and the Falcons scored nine runs in the first inning of a five-inning game at Freeport.
LaMagna hit a three-run double in the first.
Dan Burke ended it in the fifth with a bases-loaded single.
Second baseman Pat LaFlamme made two diving catches for Freeport.
CAPE ELIZABETH 10, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Will LeBlond had two hits and three RBI, and struck out seven in a two-hitter as Cape Elizabeth won in five innings at Old Orchard Beach.
TRAIP ACADEMY 6, SACOPEE VALLEY 4: Nick Foye recovered from a rough first inning and the Rangers put together two two-out rallies at Kittery.
C.J. Pingree singled in two runs as the Hawks led 4-0 after one inning.
WAYNFLETE 21, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 2: Luke Jeton had three doubles, a triple and seven RBI to lead the Flyers in five innings at Portland.
Waynflete starter Joe Schnier struck out all six hitters he faced.
SOFTBALL
MASSABESIC 2, MARSHWOOD 1: Regan Adams hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to win it for the Mustangs at Waterboro.
Dani Egan, who struck out 15, allowed five hits and two walks for Massabesic.
FALMOUTH 15, YORK 0: Amanda Carver pitched a perfect game with three strikeouts, and the Yachtsmen scored 10 runs in the first inning in a five-inning game at York.
The Yachtsmen got the early lead on three hits, four walks and a hit batsman.
