WALTHAM, Mass. — Sam Butts and Dan Achorn combined for eight hits, seven runs scored and eight RBI out of the top two spots in the lineup to lead St. Joseph’s College to a baseball doubleheader sweep over Lasell College 10-6 and 8-3 Tuesday.

Butts went 4 for 7 with three doubles, three runs and four RBI, and Achorn was 4 for 9 with a double, four runs and four RBI for the Monks (23-3).

The Lasers are 10-18.

Alex Lorenc chipped in three hits with a double, a homer, three runs and three RBI. Brandon Chase also homered for St. Joseph’s.

 

MAINE 5, COLBY 1: Fran Whitten drove in two runs, scored one and earned the win with three innings of relief as the Black Bears (17-14) downed the Mules (9-10) at Orono.

UMASS-BOSTON 6, USM 5: Mike Consiglio hit a two-out RBI single to cap a two-run rally in the top of the ninth and give the Beacons (14-9, 3-2 Little East) the edge over the Huskies (11-11, 3-2) at Gorham.

SOFTBALL

UNE SWEEPS USM: The Nor’easters (14-6) scored twice in the sixth to take a 3-2 win over the Huskies (1-19) in the first game, then rolled to a 7-0 win in game two at Biddeford.

In the opener, Gabrielle LaRoche scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two in the sixth and Maegen Johnson followed with an RBI triple.

In the late game, UNE took advantage of three errors to score four runs in the second.

COLBY SWEEPS UM-FARMINGTON: Katie Graichen and Brianne Wheeler combined for eight hits, three runs scored and seven RBI to lead the Mules (6-13) to 10-1 and 7-2 wins over the Beavers (8-10) at Farmington.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 18, ENDICOTT 12: Elizabeth Clegg and Carolyn Gorjek scored four goals apiece to lead the Polar Bears (7-4) past the Gulls (7-4) at Beverly, Mass.

 

RIVIER 20, ST. JOSEPH’S 19: Hannah Wyatt and Rebecca Wickens scored in the final three minutes of overtime to lift the Raiders (2-5, 1-4 GNAC) over the Monks (6-4, 4-3) at Nashua, N.H.

Cassie Diplock scored eight goals, including one in overtime, for St. Joseph’s.
