She was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Waldemar and Dorothy (Wilson) Anderson. She was a graduate of Mary E Wells High School in Southbridge MA.
She married Roger L. Deveau in 1956 and they moved to Maine in 1962 where they raised their family. Mr. Deveau predeceased her on April 15, 2004.
Mrs. Deveau was employed for many years as a medical secretary in the pediatric office of Dr. Houghton White and later for Dr. Larry Losey. She genuinely loved each of the children who came into the office, and delighted in seeing them with their own families after she retired. She was a member of First Parish Church, where she served many roles and especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School and her role as a Greeter for services. She was an avid Duplicate Bridge player and a Life Master Bridge player. She cherished the deep and lasting friendships she and Roger forged through their Bridge group.
Polly enjoyed traveling with friends to Grenada, Hawaii, and various warm places in the United States. She was an avid follower of sporting events of all kinds and relished annual trips to watch the Volvo tennis championships in Conway, NH. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a skilled ‘armchair referee’ of Red Sox and Patriots’ games on television.
She was never without her warm smile, and a kind word for everyone she met. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy ( Anderson) Bayer of Brunswick; a son, Craig J. Deveau and his wife Kris of Auburn, and a daughter, Heather D. Blease of Freeport; her twin sister, Sally Watson and her husband, Howard of Sturbridge, MA., two brothers, David Anderson and his wife, Jean Kirkpatrick of Winthrop and John Anderson and his wife, Natalie of Barre, VT; 8 grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Ryan, and Aurora Deveau and Alden, Carter, Owen and Elsa Blease.
The family would like to thank the staff for the companionship and care provided when she was a resident of Cadigan Lodge, Governor King Residence and the Androscoggin Hospice House.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 P.M., Sat., April 14th at First Parish Church, Maine Street, Brunswick with the Rev. Geoffrey Parker officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden of First Parish Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice Foundation, 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, ME 04240.
