To the editor:
How interesting that the day after reporting that city officials hope to hang an “Open for Business” sign near a “Cool Little City” sign, staff writer Beth Brogan reported that Bath has been named as one of five great American Main streets in recognition of its “vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown and authentic maritime heritage.”
One cannot but ask which of those descriptions best exemplifies the true spirit of Bath.
Under Gov. Paul LePage’s leadership all of Maine is now “open for business,” as his change of the turnpike sign announced.
Surely, Bath has reason to pride itself and rely on its history and character without resorting to such a crass invitation to new development.
