Saturday, April 7: The Limington Extension’s Cheep-Cheep Easter Sale will be held the day before Easter, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Limington Town Hall, Route 11, Limington. More than a hundred 25- and 50-cent Easter baskets, hundreds of 25-cent items like bags of eggs with candy, Easter plush, basket fillers, toys; $1 & $2 clothing. April 7: Spaulding Memorial Library’s second annual Easter Cake Sale will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the library on Route 114 in Sebago.
Monday, April 9: The Raymond-Casco Historical Society presents “Dowsing” with Wayne Holmquist, of Raymond, as speaker. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Raymond Public Safety Building. Holmquist will be demonstrating his experience in dowsing for old family cemeteries. This is a program of special interest to people who have private family burial grounds on their property, or would like to learn the art of dowsing. April 9: The Wildridge Garden Club presents Ken Canfield, of the Maine Forest Service, speaking on invasive plants and insects in Maine, at 7 p.m. at the Standish Town Hall, 175 Northeast Road. Canfield will also be able to answer general forestry questions and forest management plans. The event is free and open to the public.
April 13-28: Schoolhouse Arts Center will present “Steel Magnolias” on April 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 15, 22, 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Saturday, April 14: Casco Old Fashioned Farm Days takes place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Watkins Flat on Route 302, across from Watkins Farm near Naples town line. Brought to you by The Horse & Mule Club of Maine & Dingley’s Frozen Custard. Rain Date is April 15. See and even take part in how farming was done by our ancestors when Casco was young. April 14: The Athletics Department at Saint Joseph’s College offers its Kids Night Out program at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center on campus. The event, open to children ages 7-13, sponsors games, movies, swimming, rock climbing, arts & crafts, and sports. The program goes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The price is $12 per child and $6 for each additional child from the same family. April 14: The Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26 in Gray will be opening for the 2012 season at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday, April 15: A “Women Interested in Aviation” event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eastern Slope Regional Airport in Fryeburg, where owner of Western Maine Aviation, Mary Build, and other women pilots will “share their wings.” Here’s your chance to acquire a new skill and learn about the opportunities that aviation has to offer. With a pilot shortage looming in the near future, a career in aviation just may be what you or your daughter, sister, neice, or best friend could seriously consider. April 16-19: Saint Joseph’s College will offer a lifeguard training course that is designed to teach the skills needed to prevent injuries, prepare for and respond appropriately to drowning, injury, breathing and cardiac emergencies. This 28-hour training will instruct participants according to the newly released lifeguard program, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Qualifying participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR certification. The course runs Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants must attend all four classes. All classes are held at the Harold Alfond Center on the Standish campus. Saturday, April 21: During the Civil War, at least one-fourth of the gunpowder used by the Union soldiers was manufactured at the gunpowder mill located on the Presumpscot River in Gorham and Windham, mills being located on both sides of the River. The Windham Historical Society will present a program about these mills and the part they played in the Civil War and other wars as well as for expansion of the nation. The program begins at 9 a.m. at the Society museum, 234 Windham Center Road. The public is invited. There is no fee, but donations are welcome. At 1 p.m., following a lunch break, a tour of the gunpowder mill site and view of the artifacts still in place will be conducted by the Society and Don Wescott, Presumpscot Regional Land Trust. April 21: Teens are invited to come to the Portland Public Library to take a SAT practice test, 1-3 p.m. The following subjects are available using the library’s own Learn-a-Test program offered through the Learning Express Library: SAT Critical Reading Practice Tests; SAT Math Practice Tests; SAT Writing Multiple-Choice Practice Tests; SAT Writing Practice Essays; and SAT Preparation Courses and Guides. This event will be held in Meeting Room 5 on the lower level.
