Causeway Update
Viewing the progress from the road, it is hard to believe that the bridge will be done by May 15, especially when April just snuck up on us. However, the picture becomes clearer when you see the lakeside view of the bridg. Now, that is progress. Yes, I have been slightly delayed while travelling the Causeway, but it is all in the name or progress, so I don’t give it a second though. (It helps that the delays are very short.) Don’t forget to come down to the Causeway for the celebration of the new bridge on Friday, May 18. More details to come on the events planned for that very special day.
Clean-Up Day
Last week I wrote that Naples Clean Up Day would be May 5. It is officially May 12, meeting at the Inn at Long Lake at 8:30 a.m. Call 831-0890 for more information.
Easter Sunday
Celebrate Easter this Sunday at Christ Chapel’s Sunrise Service at 8 a.m. followed by their Resurrection Service at 10 a.m., both at Christ Chapel Church, off of Route 85, Northern Pines Road in Raymond. The Church is also offering their complimentary community meal the following week on Saturday, April 28 from 4:30-6 p.m. Enjoy fellowship and delicious meal including lobster stew, Swedish meatballs, casseroles, salad, pasta and desserts.
Naples Recreation Camp
Registration for Summer Kidventure Camp will take place on April 7 from 9 a.m.-noon and on April 10 from 4-7 p.m. for full summer and weekly registration. Registration for split weeks (Tuesday, Thursday or Monday, Wednesday, Friday) will be on May 1 from 4-7 p.m. All registrations will be held at the Naples Town Office. The camp is for children going into first through sixth grade in the fall of 2012. Registration forms will not be accepted before the registration dates, but you can still sign up afterwards, if space is available. If you have any questions please feel free to call Harvey Price at 693-6364.
Kindergarten Screening
The cutest thing ever is attending a kindergarten screening. Those days are long over for me, but please bring your child to the mandatory screening if they will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2012. Contact Elaine Griffin or Rosemarie Dyer at 693-6828 ext. 222 at Songo Locks School between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment. The dates for the screenings are Monday, April 30, and Tuesday, May 1.
Comedy Night
Tickets are just $25 for dinner, a show, and your charitable donation toward our own Naples Fire Department. The firemen start early in the morning clearing out the firehouse to make room for the buffet, silent auction, and the many guests who will crowd the Fire House all for a good cause and a good time.
On April 28, doors open at 6 p.m. to preview the auction items. Lake Region Caterers, Inc. of Naples will once again be donating the famous Pulled Pork buffet dinner with all the fixings and providing a cash bar. This year, the bar will be offering Skinny Cocktails as well as some delicious light Mocktails for those designated drivers or those who just want a fun drink sans alcohol and low on calories. Tickets can be purchased at the Naples Town Office, A2M Variety, or Naples Small Engine.
Team Anne Marie Night
The Galley Restaurant was the place to be on Saturday, March 24. Maine’s Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes – Alex, Liz and Anne Marie Fay, of Naples – were on hand educating people about premature births and the work that the March of Dimes does. There were raffles and a portion of each dinner bought that night went to Team Anne Marie for their March of Dimes walk in May. The night raised more than $500 for the cause.
The Heart of Naples
Every year in April, the American Library Association sponsors National Library Week and celebrates the contributions of our nation’s libraries. This year, April 8-14, the Naples Public Library will be drawing on the theme of “Libraries: The Heart of Every Community” to illustrate the place that it holds in the town of Naples.
If you have ever driven through Naples on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, you can plainly see the warm lights of the beautiful and historic Locust House beckoning you to come in and explore, connect, grow, and expand your horizons. Three floors offer you quality and popular books, books on tape and CD, reference and historical collections, large print volumes, video cassettes and DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, maps, magazines, newspapers, and audio and e-book downloads from Maine InfoNet. A huge collection of books, CDs, and DVDs are assembled for sale at bargain prices in the Book Barn. Service is at the heart of the Naples Public Library and you will find programs for adults and children including an Adult Book Discussion Group, story time, and a great Summer Reading Program. The Naples Public Library provides interlibrary loan, Internet service, wireless connection, free museum and Game Farm passes and a great place to volunteer and to meet people.
If you want to learn more about the “Heart” of Naples go to our web site www.naples.lib.me.us. Stop in during our open hours Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wednesday 2-7 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and receive a free National Library Week gift, while supplies last. In keeping with the “Heart” theme, please keep in mind the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the library from noon-3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.
The view from the Long Lake side of the new Naples Causeway bridge shows how much work has been done over the winter. May 18 is the grand opening.
Alex, Liz and Anne Marie Fay, the March of Dimes Maine Ambassador Family and also of Naples, were at the Team Anne Marie fundraiser held recently at The Galley Restaurant in Naples.
