The Bowdoin to the Coast 10-miler was a popular race for years in the Mid-coast region with an Olympic-style ending at Bowdoin College’s Whittier Field. On the left, running in the 1985 race, is Brunswick High school track coach Dave DeLois, while in the middle is Downeast Energy president John Peters. On the right is lawyer John Moncure, a self-proclaimed “running wannabe.” Said Moncure, “The background is that we were in pretty good shape then and all wanted to break 70 minutes. We had a deal that if we didn’t, we would enter the stadium and finish in Groucho glasses, which I had stored near the finish!”  (George Almasi / the Times Record)
