Gray Resident wins eco-Excellence Award
Peter Thoits was recently presented the 2012 eco-Excellence Award for contributions in preserving local ecology in Gray. He had been nominated by the Gray Recycling Committee.
Thoits was nominated, according to the Recycling Committee, because of “his years of volunteer service to the town’s recycling efforts.” He was chairperson of the Recycling Committee for nine years and worked on projects such as household hazardous waste collection, fall and spring clean-up days, and the town’s purchase of “Gray Recycles” bins. He wrote and submitted articles about recycling to a local newspaper and was instrumental in the re-writing of Gray’s recycling ordinance, which has been submitted to the Town Council for approval.
ecomaine is a municipally-owned nonprofit organization, which owns and operates the only single-sort recycling facility in Maine, a landfill/ashfill site and a waste-to-energy plant that produces electricity.
