Library friends raffle

The Friends of the Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., is sponsoring a spring raffle of two baskets.

One basket is filled with children’s books, chocolate sweets, plush bunnies, a Zhu Zhu pet, a copy of “The Velveteen Rabbit” and a dollhouse kit.

The other basket has a gardening theme. It’s a homemade basket with a glass handle and contains a gardening book, gardening-related fiction, with tools for gardens, a flower note pad, and a chocolate or two.

The raffle began March 23 and continues through Friday, April 6. The drawing will be held at noon on Saturday, April 7. Tickets are 50 cents or 3 for $1.

All of the proceeds go to the Friends of the Walker Memorial Library fund.

Vision therapist

at library

Steve Kelley, a vision rehab therapist from the Iris Network, will discuss screen magnification on electronic devices such as e-readers, computers, and iPads at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at Walker Memorial Library.

‘Killing Bill’

places third

Westbrook High School placed third in the Class A state finals of the 2012 Maine Drama Festival, held last weekend at Falmouth High School.

Westbrook’s performance of the one-act play “Killing Bill” scored 266 points, just behind Falmouth, the winner, at 276, and Cape Elizabeth at 269.

Cast members Rebecca Grondin and Cam Goodwin were named to the all-festival cast.

Westbrook’s Kitchenetts were awarded a commendation for “Oustanding Group Percussion.”

Soloway on duty

Marine Corps Pvt. Quinn Soloway has completed infantry training school at Camp Geiger, N.C., and has begun Security Forces School in Chesapeake, Va. Quinn is the son of Nicholas and Barbara Soloway and brother of Nick Soloway, all of Westbrook. He is a 2011 graduate of Westbrook High School.

Tootsie Roll drive sweet success

The Westbrook Knights of Columbus-sponsored “Tootsie Roll Drive” for the disabled held last September generated $1,316.94. The Knights awarded $400 to the American Council of the Blind; $300, Maine Special Olympics; $300,

Riding to the Top; and $316.94, Lori’s Kids Parties.

Woman’s club annual meeting

Westbrook Woman’s Club will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, April 10, at Parker’s Restaurant on Washington Avenue in Portland.

A luncheon at noon will be preceded by a social hour at 11:30 a.m. For reservations, call Jean Thomas at 797-7873 by Thursday, April 5.

Trinity Easter vigil

An Easter Vigil will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St, Westbrook with a presentation written by Elsie Reese of Scarborough.

The program will include dramatic readings, liturgical dance by Bonnie Wright and Sheila Campbell and skits presented by the Trinity drama troupe.

Preceding the program, a new fire will be struck outside of the church to begin a candlelight procession bringing new light into the church darkened on Good Friday. Following the vigil in preparation for Easter, all are invited to share in dessert and fellowship.

Roys to entertain seniors

Don and Cindy Roy of Gorham will perform fiddle music when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 2, in the Westbrook Community Center on Bridge Street.

The seniors are planning a Flag Day trip on Thursday, June 14, to Harrisville, R.I., for a dinner show featuring the Derosie Orchestra with patriotic music.

On Monday, July 2, the group will view the tall ships in Boston. The group will go on a foliage trip Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 8 and 9, to Killington, Vt. In early November, the seniors are planning a nine-day, motor coach trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
