BRUNSWICK — Jennifer Wachtl of Brunswick recently joined the Maine Conservation Corps ( MCC) as an AmeriCorps volunteer in the MCC’s 2012 Trail Training Academy.
Wachtl is the daughter of Wendy Severson and Timothy Wachtl, both of Brunswick. She is a 2000 graduate of Brunswick High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Maine in Orono, where she studied parks, recreation and tourism with a focus on environmental interpretation.
The MCC conducts conservation projects throughout Maine, including extensive trail construction and rehabilitation.
The Trail Training Academy, which prepares team leaders for the upcoming season, runs for 10 weeks and covers topics such as trail layout and design, stone work, team management and timber bridge construction.
In addition, participants will receive training in chainsaw use and safety and will be certified in Wilderness First Aid.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
