Prior to leaving for school vacation on Feb. 17, students assisted with gathering cans of nonperishable food items donated by students, staff and families to the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach located at the MTM building on School Street in Lisbon Falls. LACO is a nonprofit organization sponsored by various churches in Lisbon, Durham and Bowdoin to provide the communities with a food pantry and clothing bank.
“The Lisbon community of schools is a caring group of students, staff and families who give from the heart to help others,” said Carol Day, co-director of LACO. “We are fortunate to have a number of Lisbon Interact students and junior volunteers who assist at the center on a regular basis volunteering their time to make a difference in our community.”
LACO’s hours of operation are Wednesdays 6 to 8 p.m.; Thursdays from 10 a.m. until noon; and Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
