Volunteers to package 8,000 meals

On Palm Sunday April 1, Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., will serve as host location for a food package program originating from the Outreach Inc. organization. The program is “Kids Care,” part of the Meals of Hope project, and will begin about noon.

The program has packaged and delivered more than 125 million nutritious meals to the hungry in the United States and around the world. With the help of three other Westbrook churches – Westbrook Warren Congregational, Prides Corner Congregational and the First Baptist Church – the volunteers from each church will set up lines and within an hour 8,000 meals will be packaged.

The volunteers will sort, measure, package, seal and label the meals in a variety of macaroni and cheese or beans and rice. These meals figure out to cost 25 cents and for $250 (for product/packaging) 1,000 meals can be packaged by 12 people in 37 minutes.

Each church provided the seed monies to bring the program to Westbrook.
