BATH — Anita Ruff, a Bath resident and director of MaineHealth Learning Resource Centers, will speak March 28 during Patten Free Library’s third in a series of brown-bag lunch discussions about health information literacy and online health information.
The program is scheduled to start at noon in the library’s Community Room. Attendance is free. No advance registration is required.
“Health literacy is the degree to which individuals can obtain, process and understand the basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions for themselves and/ or their loved ones,” a Patten Free Library release states. “For many people, the ever- increasing amounts information available online makes being health literate more and more challenging.”
“Ruff ’s organization helps people with health literacy in a variety of ways: by providing information on diseases, conditions, or treatments; and by providing technical assistance to those who need help with online research or navigating the health care system,” the release states.
The brown bag lunch series is held on the last Wednesday of every month and will continue through May. The April topic, “Appy Hour,” will be a participatory event. Attendees will be invited to share their favorite mobile or iPad “app.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way.
