TOPSHAM — Proposed zoning amendments that would allow redevelopment officials more flexibility in leasing space at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station are among items the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority will consider at a meeting this afternoon at the Topsham Municipal Building.

MRRA also will consider appropriating funds to complete the sale of land beneath former military housing to developer George Schott, who owns the housing.

Steve Levesque, executive director of the MRRA, said Monday that he expects the $ 3.35 million deal with Schott’s Affordable Midcoast Housing to be completed within weeks — “there are no issues,” he said — but with the next meeting of the board not scheduled until May, the funds must be appropriated now.

The board also will hold a public hearing on zoning amendments that would allow additional uses in areas on the former Navy base.

One proposed amendment would rezone approximately 27.5 acres surrounding a former mobile home park from residential to community mixed use.

“It gives us more flexibility,” Levesque said. “It’s still residential, but it doesn’t prohibit other activities.”

Another proposed change would allow light manufacturing in community mixed use districts.

Levesque said a number of buildings in a planned professional office district could be leased in the short term for other uses, such as warehousing and light manufacturing “until the professional office district is up and running.”

Zoning amendments, if approved today by the MRRA board, would then have to be approved by the Brunswick Planning Board and Town Council.

Among other agenda items, the board will:

— Hear a report from Levesque.

— Hear reports from the Executive, Finance, Airport, Property and Utilities, Environmental & Energy committees.

— Consider proposed amendments to the 2012 utility, special revenue and Brunswick Executive Airport budgets

The MRRA will meet at 4 p.m. at the Topsham Municipal Building, 100 Main St.
