HARPSWELL — The Harpswell Community Nursery School will host a free, public screening of the documentary “ Mother Nature’s Child” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road.

“‘Mother Nature’s Child’ explores nature’s powerful role in children’s health and development, and notes the lessening of children’s connection with nature and of free play outdoors due to our overprotective society and the lure of technological devices,” a release from the school states. “Using footage of children of various ages as they play and work outside, along with interviews with experts like Richard Louv, author of ‘Last Child in the Woods,’ the film poses these questions: Why do children need unstructured time outside? What is the place of risk-taking in healthy child development? How is play a form of learning? How can we help kids connect with nature?”

A panel discussion will follow the screening. Advance registration is recommended.
