BRUNSWICK — Brunswick police on Friday arrested a 42-year-old Woodland Road man for allegedly assaulting his daughter. Police then seized 26 guns from his home.

Robert A. Smith, 42, of Woodland Road, was arrested during a felony traffic stop on River Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday, Brunswick Police Capt. Mark Waltz said in a press release.

Seven patrol cars responded to the stop, near the Brunswick Golf Course.

Smith was charged with domestic violence assault based on allegations by his 18-year-old daughter, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said today.

He was also charged with violation of condition of release because he had been released on bail from Androscoggin County Superior Court, where he faces the charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, according to Waltz.

After Smith consented to a search of his Woodland Road home, officers seized 26 weapons, Hagan said. Smith is prohibited by bail conditions from possessing firearms.

Brunswick police also charged Smith with terrorizing at 25 Woodland Drive on Feb. 2, 2012, according to The Times Record archives.

He remains in Cumberland County Jail this morning, scheduled to appear in court later today.
