The Rev. Leighninger earned a bachelor’s of fine arts degree from the College of New Rochelle, and a master’s of divinity from Andover Newton Theological School.
A native of Brunswick, Leighninger made her residence with her family in several eastern states before returning to Maine 10 years ago to reside in Kennebunk. She was appointed associate minister of Christ Church, UMC/UCC, in 2003, and six years later, minister of that congregation. She has also served as on call minister and summer minister for numerous other congregations including one on Matinicus Island.
“We are grateful that the Rev. Leighninger has decided to relocate to her family home in Brunswick, and that she has made herself available to serve the worship community at the Popham Chapel,” states a release from the church.
The Rev. Leighninger will be leading the Easter morning service, and then Sunday services from Memorial Day weekend through the end of September.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
