Many of the students won multiple prizes for submissions in different genres. They are Xander Bartone of Bath ( poetry and personal essay), Josephine Cotton of Bremen (poetry), Morganne Elkins of Edgecomb ( personal essay, fiction and poetry), Avery Genus of Edgecomb ( poetry), Samantha Herter of Brunswick (fiction, personal essay, science fiction and poetry), Eloise Kelly of Alna (poetry), Gabrielle Nuki of Brunswick ( personal essay and poetry), Lilly Richardson of Whitefield ( poetry and fiction), Emily Sanborn of Alna (poetry), and Abraham Steinberger of Nobleboro (poetry).
The work of two of the students, Gold Key winners Samantha Herter and Morganne Elkins, has been submitted for judging at the national level; in addition, Elkins is a candidate for the prestigious American Voices Award, according to a release from the school.
The writers and their teacher, Nancie Atwell, will be among those honored at a reception at the University of Southern Maine, sponsor of the state level of the Scholastic competition, on Friday.
