Maine Walkers place first in 1-mile national races
Maine’s high school racewalkers continue to perform well at the national level, winning the girls’ and boys’ 1-mile championships in last weekend’s New Balance nationals at the New York City Armory.
Edward Little High’s Abby Dunn won her second national championship in the girls’ 1-mile racewalk while Luc Bourget of Edward Little won the boys’ 1-mile racewalk.
Dunn won her race in 7:28.13 while Gorham’s Katie Flanders was fourth at 7:43.81.
In the boys’ race, Bourget won in 7:17.03. Medomak Valley’s Ian Rixon finished second at 7:24.02 and Edward Little’s Adam Robinson was fourth in 7:47.08.
Other strong performances included:
• Waterville’s Bethanie Brown finishing fourth in the girls’ 2-mile (10:29.04).
• Wells’ Denzel Tomaszewski running a 7.15 in the Emerging Elite 60-meter dash.
• Messalonskee’s Harlow Ladd running a 9:16.4 in the boys’ 2-mile.
• Thornton Academy’s Andrew Smith finishing 10th in the freshman 60-meter (7.56 seconds) and 16th in the 400 (53.72).
• Mt. Ararat’s 4-by-400 relay team of Will Hrinak, Nick Oram, Ryan Smith and McKenzie Gary finishing 13th in the Emerging Elite section with a time of 3:27.90.
