TOPSHAM — Hypnotist Paul Ramsay will return to Mt. Ararat High School on Friday for a new performance, the proceeds of which benefit the class of 2012 Project Graduation.
The performance will start at 7 p.m. in the high school commons. Tickets cost $10 at the door or $8 in advance by contacting Bruce Jones at jonesb@link75.org.
According to Jones, Ramsay’s show is appropriate for the whole family. Ramsay performs at colleges, high schools, and corporate parties all over the East Coast, Jones said, and Friday will make his fourth appearance at Mt. Ararat High School. Jones said Friday’s show will be different than his show last year.
According to his website, www.paulramsay.com, Ramsay graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor of arts degree in English teaching in 1996, and with a master of arts in secondary education in 2002. He taught English at a public high school, then returned to work at his alma mater.
“Whether in the classroom or on campus, Paul’s goal was always to create opportunities for people to experience transformational change and gain new personal insights, and in his search for how to best do this he finally came upon hypnotism,” the website says.
After earning his certification through the National Guild of Hypnotists, Ramsay joined the National Association for Campus Activities and began working the college circuit.
Ramsay, the website states, “believes that hypnotism is more than a way to entertain people, and his stage show reflects that. Paul has the utmost care and respect for volunteers at his show.”
Ramsay, who is also a certified instructor of hypnotism, said, “ I believe that being hypnotized can change your life for the better, even if you’re doing it for the very first time on stage and making people laugh. It’s fun, but it’s also powerful.”
Proceeds will help fund the class of 2012’s chemical-free graduation celebration. The class plans to depart for Caratunk after graduation June 10 to go whitewater rafting with Adventure Bound.
Also to benefit Project Graduation, “New England’s King of Comedy Bob Marley” will return to the Orion Performing Arts Center at Mt. Ararat Middle School on April 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $ 15 and are on sale at Michaud’s Market in Topsham, as well as from seniors and their families.
