AUGUSTA ( AP) — The Maine House wants to give state workers the same rights as private workers who were allowed last year to bring concealed weapons to work, as long as they’re locked and out of sight.
The House on Monday approved the bill 84-55, sending it to the Senate for consideration.
Republican Rep. David Burns of Whiting says the bill is an appropriate compromise that affirms state workers’ Second Amendment right to bear arms, while requiring them to have a concealed weapons permit and keep the firearm locked in their vehicle and out of sight.
The Bangor Daily News says the bill was modeled after similar legislation that narrowly passed last year that gave the same right to private-sector employees.
