FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Chris Bernard tied the game with a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning and David Ricker singled home the go-ahead run as Southern Maine earned a 7-6 baseball win Sunday over Farmingdale State.
Tucker White doubled and scored the winning run for the Huskies (3-1) on Ricker’s one-out single in the eighth.
Anthony Pisani had three of USM’s 14 hits and John Carey drove in three runs.
ST. JOSEPH’S 5, ENDICOTT 1: Chad Rafferty struck out six, walked three and allowed a run on one hit in six innings to help the Monks down the Gulls in an opener at Lake Wales, Fla.
Andrew Devereaux pitched a perfect seventh to finish it.
Joe Coyne went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Mike Pratt added an RBI double.
FAIRFIELD 8, MAINE 4: Ryan Plourde had two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI to help the Stags (5-7) down the Black Bears (5-8) at Winter Haven, Fla.
Michael Bennett added two hits and two RBI for Fairfield, which took a 3-0 lead in the seventh and tacked on five more in the eighth.
Alex Calbick hit a pair of doubles for Maine. Colin Gay also had two hits.
APPRENTICE SWEEPS SMCC: Mike Crowley doubled home the only run for the Seawolves (8-5) in 13-1 and 28-0 losses to the Builders (9-7) at Newport News, Va.
SOFTBALL
HARVARD 3, MAINE 2: Laura Ricciardone struck out five and walked none in a four-hitter as the Crimson (7-3) edged the Black Bears at Northridge, Calif.
Maine got its runs in the bottom of the sixth on Dagmar Ralphs’ RBI groundout and Hilary Kane’s RBI single.
MAINE 1, CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE 0: Beth Spoehr pitched a two-hitter and Emj Fogel tripled home Kristen Koslosky in the fifth inning to lift the Black Bears (5-16) over the Matadors (5-19).
MEN’S LACROSSE
AMHERST 11, BATES 8: Devin Acton had three goals and two assists, and Aaron Mathias also scored three times for the Jeffs (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) against the Bobcats (1-3, 0-2) at Amherst, Mass.
Thomas Repko had three goals and two assists for Bates.
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON-FLORHAM 14, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Paul Colflesh had a goal and four assists and five players scored twice for the Devils (3-1) against the Monks (1-3) at Madison, N.J.
Benson Pasquarello, Max Meserve and Jonathan Horgan each had a goal and an assist for St. Joseph’s. Andrew Hamill also scored.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 16, UNE 5: Tess Petesch scored four goals and and Katie Griffin had three for the Mules (2-0), who took a 7-1 lead in the first 19 minutes against the Nor’easters (2-2) at Biddeford.
Lane McVey added two goals and three assists for Colby. Sarah Lux and Katharine Eddy also scored twice.
Hannah Tavella had four goals for UNE.
AMHERST 11, BATES 9: Caroline Holliday and Allie Horwitz scored overtime goals to complete a come-from-behind win for the Jeffs (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) against the Bobcats (1-2, 0-2) at Lewiston.
Bates went ahead 2-1 just over four minutes into the game and led until Marta Randall scored on a free position shot with 2:45 left to tie it at 9.
Joan O’Neill scored four goals for the Bobcats. Jenna Dannis and Wally Pierce each had two. Horwitz had five for the Jeffs.
