— The Maine McDonald’s® Owner/Operators Association tonight announced
SCARBOROUGH – A Scarborough students was one of two recipients of the 2012 Maine All-State Academic Scholarship awarded this weekend by the Maine McDonald’s® Owner/Operators Association.
Kelly Beisswanger of Wells High School and John Passarelli of Scarborough High School each received a $2,000 scholarship award at the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) Awards Banquet at Husson University.
Passarelli holds a 4.0 GPA and has earned Honors or High Honors every year at Scarborough High School. He has also served as Class Treasurer for all four years. Passarelli received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and the Brandeis Book Award
and is a member of the National Honor Society. He has received numerous honors and awards for academics and sports, including the Coach’s Award in Soccer and Basketball
and was named a Soccer Academic All-American. Passarelli has volunteered in his community at a soup kitchen, food pantry, and youth basketball and soccer programs. He has also been a volunteer saxophone instructor and has performed in the Memorial Day Parade marching band for several years. In addition, he is very active in his church and has been a Youth Ministry Group Leader for three years.
“Each member of the All-State Academic team is among the best and brightest student-athletes in the state,” said Rhonda Sprague, trustee of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine, who presented the awards. “On behalf of all the Maine McDonald’s Owner/Operators, I’d like to commend Kelly and John as well as all the members of the All-State Academic Team for their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to school and community activities.”
