The Southern Maine Blizzard finished third behind Messalonskee and Lewiston at the high school bowling state championships, held Saturday at Yankee Lanes in Portland.

The Blizzard had a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five match-play semifinals before Messalonskee pulled out the victory. Messalonskee defeated Lewiston 3-0 in the finals.

Team members for the Blizzard were Tim Rudd, Megan Moody and Hannah Farr of Westbrook; Roman Latno and Alex Stigman of Gray-New Gloucester; Troy Trombley of Brunswick; Tyler Lerman of Scarborough; Kenny Sweet of Deering; and Austin Hicks and Tyler Divinsky of Gorham.

Caroline Seekins and Izzy Reis of Berwick Academy each won two events and were part of two first-place relay teams at the Eastern Independent League swimming championships Feb. 25 at Wellesley, Mass.

Berwick, which finished fourth out of seven teams, won 10 events and broke six EIL records.

Reis set records in the 200 individual medley (2:08.12) and 100 butterfly (56.35).

Seekins won the 100 breast stroke in a record-setting 1:15.21 and was first in the 100 freestyle in 57.42.

Seekins, Reis, Kelsey Hayden and Jenna Hayden set records in the 200 medley relay (1:55.8) and 400 free relay (3:41.33). Jenna Hayden also swam the 50 freestyle in a record 2:08.12, and Kelsey Hayden won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.50.

In the boys’ events, Will Reis won the 100 freestyle in 55.15 and Gage Anderson placed first in the 500 freestyle.
