PORTLAND — The acting police chief in Maine’s largest city is ready to assume the job on a permanent basis.

Acting Chief Michael Sauschuck will be officially sworn-in as Portland’s 19th police chief today after being confirmed by the City Council last month.

Sauschuck has been serving as acting chief since Chief James Craig left in August.

He’ll oversee a department comprising 162 sworn officers, more than 50 civilian staff and an annual budget of more than $13 million.
