BRUNSWICK — A Brunswick man who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for speeding Friday night on Bath Road was arrested a short time later following a brief foot chase.
Wendell Casler, 34, whose address is not listed but who police said is from Brunswick, allegedly fled from a vehicle stopped for speeding on Bath Road near Bowdoin College at 11:53 p.m. Friday, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.
Brunswick Police Officer Ed Yurek, who recognized Casler and knew there were outstanding warrants for his arrest, began to pursue Casler, and other responding officers joined him.
Officer Kristian Oberg caught Casler approximately 17 minutes later in a backyard on Cedar Street, Hagan said.
Casler was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and on a Sagadahoc County warrant for probation revocation on original charges of theft, criminal trespass and domestic violence terrorizing, according to Hagan.
He was taken to Cumberland County Jail, where he awaits a May 8 appearance in West Bath District Court.
