Kennebec Estuary Land Trust ( KELT) will hold an evening owl prowl at 5 p.m. today at Merrymeeting Fields Preserve.
“Join KELT’s volunteer naturalist Fred Cichocki, (also) head naturalist for Chewonki Boys Camp, for an evening romp in the woods in search of owls at Merrymeeting Fields Preserve,” a release states. “ We will call for barred owl, great horned owl, screech and saw-whet owls by playing recordings as well as using our own voices to mimic the birds’ calls.”
Participants should bring a flashlight, good walking shoes, snowshoes if the snow has accumulated and keen ears.
To reach Merrymeeting Fields Preserve, head north on Route 1 to Route 127 (just across the Sagadahoc Bridge). Continue north on 127 to Route 128 for about six miles to Chopps Point Road, then turn left and continue 0.9 miles to the parking lot and kiosk on the right.
