The Maine Sports Hall of Fame will induct eight new members at its awards banquet on May 20 at the Bangor Civic Center.
The inductees are: Walter Abbott, a UMaine football coach and athletic director; Phil Coulombe, a Cony High and UMaine football player; Emily Ellis, a Mt. View High and UMaine basketball player; Ed Guiski, who coached Dexter’s boys’ basketball team for 31 seasons; Matt Hancock, a three-time All-American basketball player at Colby; Dennis Libbey, a UMaine baseball player; Howard Vandersea, a Bates football player who later served a total of 23 years as head coach at Springfield and Bowdoin; and Dana Wilson, a Husson men’s basketball player.
Four high school athletes will also be honored as recipients of $5,000 scholarships: Jordan Hersom, of Leavitt, Patrick LaChance of St. Dom’s, Seth Sweet of Madison and Carylanne Wolfington of Hall-Dale.
Wayne Lawton and Keith Mahaney of Bangor will receive the President’s Award.
Tickets for the banquet and awards ceremony are $40 for members of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and $45 for nonmembers. Tickets may be purchased until May 13. No tickets will be available at the door.

Graham Shaw of Falmouth and Sam Roach of Windham earned medals at the BlackJack gymnastics nationals, held earlier this month in Las Vegas.
Competing at Level 7 in the 10-11 age group, Roach placed eighth in floor exercise, 10th in pommel horse, sixth in rings and sixth in vault. Shaw, also in the 10-11 age group at Level 7, was seventh in floor exercise, 10th in pommel horse, fifth in parallel bars and eighth in all-around.
A week earlier, Roach placed first in pommel horse and third in all-around at the West Point Open in West Point, N.Y., and Shaw was third in parallel bars.
Ken Sweet of Deering High beat 20 other bowlers to win the high school state championship on Feb. 12 at Family Fun Lanes in Bangor. After rolling a 269 in the semifinals, Sweet beat McCauley Donna of Bucksport High in the championship match, 196-178.
Alexa Stigman of Gray-New Gloucester finished 4th in the girls’ division.
Biddeford native Mike Hoctor will be inducted into the Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame on April 29 in Gainesville, Fla.
Hoctor, 67, had a record of 440-100 record in 33 years as a high school tennis coach. For the last nine seasons, he has served as a volunteer assistant for the University of Florida men’s team.
Shannon Farrell of Kennebunk recently became only the second player in the history of Berwick Academy’s girls’ hockey program to reach 100 career points.
Farrell, a senior, plans to attend Trinity (Conn.) College in the fall.
Alex Therriault of Oxford took first place in the adult-4 dog speed class at the Mushers Bowl in Bridgton on Feb. 19
Therriault finished the 4-mile course with a time of 14 minutes, 13 seconds.
