HARTFORD, Conn. – Natalie Novosel scored 21 points and Skylar Diggins added 20 to help No. 3 Notre Dame beat fourth-ranked Connecticut 72-59 on Monday night and win the Big East regular-season title.

It’s Notre Dame’s first outright conference title. The Fighting Irish shared the regular- season championship with UConn in 2001 before going on to win the national title.

The Irish (28-2, 15-1 Big East) swept the season series from the Huskies and have won three straight overall against UConn, including a victory in last year’s national semifinals.

Tiffany Hayes scored 22 points and Stefanie Dolson added 18 for UConn (26-4, 13-3), which has lost consecutive games at home for the first time in 19 years. The Huskies will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, behind Notre Dame and St. John’s.

(1) BAYLOR 69, (17) TEXAS A&M 62: Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims each scored 25 points, and the Bears (30-0, 17-0 Big 12) used a late run to hold off the Aggies (20-8, 11-6) at College Station, Texas.

(18) ST. JOHN’S 54, (12) GEORGETOWN 45: Amber Thompson grabbed 15 rebounds and the Red Storm (21-8, 13-3 Big East) used their advantage on the boards to beat the Hoyas (22-7, 11-5) at Washington.

(20) LOUISVILLE 63, SETON HALL 53: Shawnta Dyer came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points as the Cardinals (21-8, 10-6 Big East) beat the Pirates (8-22, 1-15) at South Orange, N.J.

(23) RUTGERS 69, MARQUETTE 58: April Sykes scored 20 points and Khadijah Rushdan notched a double-double to lead the Scarlet Knights (21-8, 10-6 Big East) past the Golden Eagles (13-16, 4-12) at Piscataway, N.J.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(3) KANSAS 70, OKLAHOMA STATE 58: Tyshawn Taylor scored 27 points, Thomas Robinson added 17 points and 11 rebounds, and the Jayhawks (25-5, 15-2 Big 12) claimed the Big 12 title with a win at Stillwater, Okla.

(9) BAYLOR 77, TEXAS TECH 48: Perry Jones III had 15 points and 10 rebounds, A.J. Walton scored a season-high 13 points, and the Bears (25-5, 12-5 Big 12) closed the first half with a 25-4 run to pull away from the Red Raiders (8-21, 1-16) at Waco, Texas.

(11) GEORGETOWN 59, (20) NOTRE DAME 41: Playing at home for the last time, Jason Clark and Henry Sims combined for 25 points, 12 rebounds and six assists as the Hoyas (22-6, 12-5 Big East) beat the Fighting Irish (20-10, 12-5).

SOFTBALL

OREGON STATE SWEEPS MAINE: The Black Bears (1-6) were shut out twice by the Beavers (13-4), losing 4-0 and 13-0 at Fullerton, Calif., with the second game called after five innings.

Maine was held to five hits in the two games. Kristen Koslosky had two of the Black Bears’ three hits in the opener.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

UNE 15, THOMAS 3: Hannah Tavella scored four goals and Gina Newsome had five assists to help the Nor’easters win their season opener at Biddeford.

UNE converted on 15 of 20 shots, including 4 of 4 by Tavella.

Jennifer Day scored twice for Thomas.
