AUGUSTA – Top-ranked Dirigo raced to a 26-1 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 90-31 win over Hall-Dale in a Western Class C boys’ basketball semifinal Thursday night at the Augusta Civic Center.
Cody St. Germain scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace Dirigo (19-1), which led 30-7 after the first eight minutes, 51-13 at halftime and 67-22 when it pulled its starters midway through the third quarter.
Caleb Turner added 15 points, and Josh Turbide and Ben Holmes each had 13 for the Cougars, who will meet Old Orchard Beach in the regional final at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
WESTERN CLASS D GIRLS
RANGELEY 54, VINALHAVEN 46: Tori Letarte scored 12 points, including a key basket to thwart a late rally as the second-seeded Lakers (18-2) held off the sixth-seeded Vikings (11-9) in a semifinal at Augusta.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
THORNTON ACADEMY 7, PORTLAND 2: Nick Chen scored two goals as the Trojans (16-1-1) finished their regular season with a win over the Bulldogs (2-16) at Portland Ice Arena.
Thornton led 4-2 after two periods, then scored three power-play goals in the third.
