TOPSHAM — Two Marines from the 25th Marine Regiment were awarded Purple Hearts on Saturday for injuries they suffered in Fallujah, Iraq.

Cpl. Eric P. King of Bangor and Cpl. Brian D. Smith Jr. of Blue Hill, both in Company A, 1st Battalion, were injured in separate roadside bomb attacks involving improvised explosive devices.

Their commanding officer, Maj. Bennett Walsh of the Topsham Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, awarded the medals. Seven Purple Hearts have been awarded to Maine soldiers in the Iraq War.
