RUMFORD — The Maine High School Class C Ski Championships got under way Monday with Freeport and Merriconeag among schools competing.

The first day of action saw Classical ski at Black Mountain with the Merriconeag girls and North Yarmouth Academy boys on top.

The skiing continued today with Giant Slalom at Mt. Abram (9 a.m.) and Nordic Freestyle at Black Mountain (3 p.m.), and finishes up Wednesday with Slalom action at Mt. Abram (9:30 a.m.).

The Merriconeag girls finished with 19 points to beat out Fort Kent (43) and Freeport (49) among 16 schools.

The NYA boys edged Merriconeag 18-35 with Freeport in third (85).

Individually for the girls, Merriconeag’s Zoe Chace-Donahue (16:05) and Emeli Chace-Donahue (17:01) finished 1-2. Teammate Samantha Pierce was seventh at 17:36 and Teagan Wu ninth in 18;02.

Freeport’s top skiers were Elizabeth Martin (fourth, 17:25), Lily LaMarre (12th, 18:39), Emily Martin (15, 18:59) and Abigail Mahoney (18, 19:39).

Ian Moore of NYA was first for the boys in 12:58.6. For the Merriconeag boys, top-four skiers were Jack Pierce (fifth, 14:12), Eli McCurdy (seventh, 14:25), Ben Tindall (11th, 14:51) and Graham Roeber (12th, 14:59).

Freeport’s top skiers included Alex Sturtevant (17th, 15:37), Mason Cyr (20, 15:51), Julius Kruse (23, 15:54) and Quinn Dowling (25, 15:57).
