BATH — The United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Ave., will hold its Ash Wednesday worship service on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. This service marks the beginning of the Lenten season.
Traditionally, this 40-day period — not counting Sundays — is a time of reflection on the Christian life, a time for repentance and a turn toward renewal.
The church’s mid- week Lenten soup suppers will pick up the renewal theme as people gather each week to share a meal and to hear several speakers share their experiences, new ideas and exciting ministries.
The suppers will be held each Wednesday, beginning Feb. 29, through March 28.
The suppers will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a program, fellowship and discussion, ending around 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the Ash Wednesday service and any or all the suppers.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
