DAMARISCOTTA — The second of two Heartwood Theater readings of Mark St. Germain’s two-man drama, “Freud’s Last Session,” is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. today in the Skidompha Library atrium.
The plot imagines a meeting between the 83-year-old psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud, a staunch atheist just days from taking his own life (read by John D. Adams) and the young, little known Christian professor, C.S. Lewis (read by Steven Shema), in Freud’s London study.
On the day England enters World War II, Freud and Lewis engage in an intellectual battle of the wits about the existence of God, love, war, sex and the meaning of life.
No reservations will be accepted. Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Suggested donations are $5 for students or $8 for adults. The content is suitable for ages 13 and older.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
