PORTLAND — The right-hand southbound lane of the Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed for part of next week.

The lane will be closed from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.

The bridge connects the West End of Portland to South Portland over the Fore River from Interstate 295.The state Department of Transportation advised commuters to allow more time to get to their destinations.

The lane closure will allow construction crews to do work on the replacement bridge. Crews will be working on the south abutment approach.

The new bridge is expected to open this summer. The removal of the old bridge is expected to take place at the end of the year.
