BRUNSWICK — Police responded Tuesday afternoon to the frozen Androscoggin River off Bay Bridge Landing for reports that a number of smelt shacks had been vandalized.

Approximately a dozen shacks sit on the ice off the landing, which is in the Bay Bridge Estates mobile home park off Old Bath Road.

Windows and doors in some of the shacks were broken, Brunswick Police Sgt. Russ Wrede said today.

Police contacted or left phone messages for the owners, asking them to notify police if their shacks had been vandalized. The investigation is ongoing.
