BRUNSWICK — As part of a weekend of “ Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen” fairs to promote Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), the Brunswick CSA Fair will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 25 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St.
Sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Organization, the Community Supported Agriculture Fair is an annual statewide event organized by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.
In the “community supported” model of local foods purchasing, a customer commits to buying a share of the coming harvest before the season begins. By doing so, he or she provides farmers or fishermen with seed money at the start of the growing season.
“Last year the Brunswick Fair brought together 14 local farms from Brunswick and surrounding towns,” a release from organizers states. “Some of these farmers had displays of produce, all farms provided information about their particular CSA programs and people can sign up for a CSA share at this gathering. A share guarantees fresh produce throughout the growing season.”
Admission to the Feb. 25 event in Brunswick is free. For more information, go to Mofga.org or call 725-6414.
