THORNDIKE (AP) — Police say a Unity man has died after a tree fell on him while he was in the woods of Thorndike chopping wood.
Police say 75-year-old Clair Lewis had been using a chain saw to cut a tree on his wooded property off Parsons Valley Road on Saturday morning. The tree that Lewis was cutting toppled onto another tree, causing the second tree to fall and land on him from behind. Authorities say a tree about 10 inches in diameter pinned his upper body.
Lewis used his cellphone to call his wife, who alerted authorities.
He was taken to Maine General Medical Center where he died.
