BRUNSWICK – Jill Henrikson scored 11 of her team-high 16 points in the second half Friday night when Bowdoin pulled way for a 70-56 women’s basketball victory over Wesleyan.

Tied at 25 with the Cardinals (13-7, 5-4 NESCAC) after 20 minutes, the Polar Bears (17-6, 6-3) put together a 9-0 run during the opening minutes of the second half for a 44-36 lead.

Wesleyan got as close as five twice before Bowdoin put it out of reach with an 8-0 string and 55-42 lead with five minutes left.

COLBY 71, CONN. COLLEGE 56: Jil Vaughan scored 18 points, Rachael Mack added 12 and the Mules (17-6, 6-3 NESCAC) went ahead by 11 in the first half against the Camels (16-5, 5-4) at Waterville.

The duo combined for 24 rebounds with Vaughan grabbing 15.

After Colby extended its lead to 15, 43-28, within the first three minutes of the second half, the Camels surged for a 22-11 run to trail 54-50 with 4:52 left. Colby closed it out with a 17-6 run.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

CONN. COLLEGE 55, COLBY 54: Matt Vadas hit a baseline jumper with 1.8 seconds left to give the Camels (7-15, 1-8 NESCAC) the win over the Mules (6-16, 1-8) at Waterville.

Ben Foreman, who finished with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, got Colby’s last field goal six seconds before Vadas’ winner.

Connor O’Neil added 12 points for Colby.

WESLEYAN 74, BOWDOIN 61: Mike Callaghan scored 25 points with 15 rebounds as the Cardinals (17-5, 5-3 NESCAC) downed the Polar Bears (16-6, 5-3) at Brunswick.

Wesleyan never relinquished the lead after a 3-pointer by Derick Beresford after 2:52.

The closest Bowdoin got was 38-35 following a 3-pointer by Ryan O’Connell and field goal from Andrew Malinger in the first minute of the second half.

(25) HARVARD 56, PENN 50: Corbin Miller and Kyle Casey scored 17 points apiece as the Crimson (21-2, 7-0) beat the Quakers (12-11, 4-2) at Philadelphia.

The Crimson snapped a tie game midway through the second half with an 11-2 run that gave them the needed cushion to hang on for their ninth straight win.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 5, HAMILTON 1: Kim Tess-Wanat scored two goals and Kayte Holtz had five assists as the Polar Bears (11-7-3, 9-4 NESCAC) handled the Continentals (8-12-1, 5-8) at Clinton, N.Y.

CASTLETON STATE 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Stephanie Bardell, Jessica Spidle and Jade Werger scored, and Paula Stevens stopped 25 shots for the Spartans (8-12-1, 7-7-1 ECAC East) against the Huskies (6-12-4, 6-7-2) at Rutland, Vt.

WESLEYAN 3, COLBY 2: Jordan Schildhaus scored 4:13 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Cardinals (4-17, 3-10 NESCAC) over the Mules (4-15-2, 1-11-1) at Middletown, Conn.

SOFTBALL

ILLINOIS STATE 5, MAINE 4: Jhavon Hamilton hit a solo homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Liz Andrews ended it with a single in the eighth for the Redbirds in a mutual opener against the Black Bears at Tampa, Fla.

Jean Stevens homered twice for the Black Bears.

SOUTH FLORIDA 8, MAINE 1: The Bulls (1-0) went ahead 4-0 in the first inning to beat the Black Bears (0-2) at Tampa, Fla.

Jean Stevens had two hits and Katlin Norton scored on an illegal pitch for Maine.

BOWDOIN 6, WESLEYAN 4: Harry Matheson, Colin Downey and Ollie Koo each had a goal and an assist to help the Polar Bears (12-5-3, 9-3-3 NESCAC) over the Cardinals (11-9-1, 6-8-1) at Brunswick.

COLBY 7, TRINITY 4: Scott Harff scored twice for the Mules (6-14, 3-12 NESCAC) against the Bantams (8-10-2, 5-8-2) at Waterville.

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, BABSON 1: The Huskies (9-9-4, 7-6-2 ECAC East) scored three unanswered goals in the second period against the Beavers (7-12-3, 7-5-3) at Babson Park, Mass.

UMASS-BOSTON 4, UNE 3: Tim Richter scored the winner with 2:14 left and the Beacons (11-8-3, 7-7-1) went on to edge the Nor’easters (3-16-2, 1-14) at Boston.
