HARRIET BEECHER STOWE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Brunswick recently hosted a 5-2-1-0 program at which the school’s mascot, Beecher Bob the Bobcat (also known as Mallory Palmer), met with Crusher, mascot for the Maine Red Claws National Basketball Association Developmental League team. During an assembly about the Living Healthy Program, presented by Harvard Pilgrim, the students watched a brief video depicting Red Claws basketball players sharing how they stay healthy. Crusher then led the school community through fitness exercises. “Lessons were shared that teach eating right, being active and making smart choices to stay healthy and fit,” according to an email from the school’s physical education teacher and 5-2-1-0 leader Lynn D’Agostino. “The HBS community continues its quest for healthy living in conjunction with Mid Coast Hospital and the Let’s Go program, www.letsgo.org. The 5-2-1-0 program encourages children to eat five fruits or vegetables per day, engage in no more than two hours of screen time daily, spend one hour per day exercising and imbibe zero sugary drinks.”
