Dave Pallone, a diversity advocate and best-selling author of “Behind the Mask: My Double Life in Baseball,” will give a free lecture at 6 p.m. Thursday at the University of Southern Maine’s Corthell Hall in Gorham. The lecture is open to the public. Pallone, a former major league umpire, has been featured in ESPN’s documentary “Homophobia in Sports,” as well as on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.”

Bowdoin College, in conjunction with the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, will hold its annual Girls & Women in Sports Weekend on Feb. 11 and 12. On Sunday, girls in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to participate in clinics taught by Bowdoin women athletes. Clinics will be available for basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, squash, tennis, track and volleyball. Pizza and snacks will be provided.
