WESTBROOK – The owner of a shopping center building on Main Street has confirmed that Blockbuster, the video rental company that vacated its space in the center last fall, will not be returning as it once planned.
“They’re not coming back,” said David Fleming, a spokesman for W.S. Development, the Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based company that owns the Westbrook Crossing shopping plaza.
Back in September 2011, the company announced it would be splitting the space Blockbuster once occupied in two, to make room for Chipotle Mexican Grill. Fleming said Chipotle, the Denver-based Mexican chain, plans to open on Feb. 14, provided it gets its food service license at the Feb. 6 municipal officers meeting in Westbrook.
Fleming said W.S. Development learned at the end of 2011 that Blockbuster would not be returning.
“We’re actively marketing it right now,” Fleming said of the now vacant, 3,500-square-foot space.
In addition to the Westbrook location, signs at the company’s Mill Creek, South Portland, store indicate it is closing that location, too.
