ORONO – The 15th-ranked University of Maine hockey team recovered from Friday’s near upset with a dominant 5-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville Saturday night at Alfond Arena.

The Black Bears (16-8-3) have won six straight and are 13-2-1 in their last 16, while the Chargers dropped to 2-26-1.

Unlike Friday night, when they fell behind early and needed overtime for a 4-3 win, the Black Bears took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from Mark Anthoine of Lewiston and Brice O’Connor.

In the second period, the Black Bears converted on two early power plays for a 4-0 lead.

On the first, Brian Flynn put in a backhander 26 seconds into the power play with Spencer Abbott assisting.

Tyler Kotlarz picked up a tripping penalty at 3:29 and Matt Mangene scored 50 seconds later after a feed from Abbott and slap shot from defenseman Will O’Neill.

Abbott scored the last goal when he put in a rebound of another blast from the point, this time by Jake Rutt of Scarborough with 8:41 left.

Maine goalie Dan Sullivan (15-5-3) stopped 20 shots.
