MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Amy Hackett had a season-high 18 points to lead Bowdoin to a 68-58 win over Middlebury in a NESCAC women’s basketball game Friday night.

The Polar Bears (16-5, 5-2 NESCAC) outscored Middlebury 49-27 in the second half. Jill Henrikson added 17 points and Nicole Coombes scored 15.

AMHERST 75, BATES 63: The Jeffs (21-0, 7-0 NESCAC) won their 30th straight game, beating the Bobcats (9-12, 2-6) at Lewiston.

Bates got 17 points from Meredith Kelly.

COLBY 62, WILLIAMS 56: Rachael Mack had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Jil Vaughan scored 15 points to help the Mules (14-5, 4-3 NESCAC) beat the Ephs (17-4, 4-3) at Williamstown, Mass.

MIDDLEBURY 79, BOWDOIN 76: The top-ranked Panthers (19-1, 7-0 NESCAC) held off a late challenge from the Polar Bears (14-6, 3-4) at Middlebury, Vt.

Ryan O’Connell scored 23 points for the Polar Bears.

AMHERST 67, BATES 54: David Waller scored 19 points for the Jeffs (19-2, 7-0 NESCAC) in a win over the Bobcats (10-9, 4-4) at Lewiston.

John Squires paced Bates with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

WILLIAMS 76, COLBY 51: The Ephs (16-5, 4-3 NESCAC) hit 18 3-pointers in a win over the Mules (6-14, 1-6) at Williamstown, Mass.

Colby got 14 points from Eric Beaulieu.

UCONN: Jim Calhoun, who missed three games earlier this season because of NCAA sanctions, is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence because of back problems.

The Hall of Fame coach of the defending national champions has been suffering for several months from spinal stenosis, a condition that causes him severe pain and hampers mobility.

USM 5, UNE 1: Dan Rautenberg scored twice, and Jon Grandinetti had a goal and two assists to lead the Huskies (7-9-4) past the Nor’easters (3-14-2) at Biddeford.

Matt Tucceri and Lorne Miller also scored for USM. Tyler Fleurent scored for UNE.

AMHERST 3, BOWDOIN 1: Elliot Bostrom and Mark Colp scored third-period goals, and Jonathan La Rose made 37 saves to lift the Jeffs (15-3-1, 12-1 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (11-5-2, 8-3-2) at Amherst, Mass.

Bowdoin’s Harry Matheson scored a power-play goal in the first period.

COLBY 4, HAMILTON 2: Nils Martin broke a 2-2 tie with 1:42 left in the second period and Matt Delaney made 36 saves to help the Mules (5-13, 2-11 NESCAC) beat the Continentals (7-10-2, 3-9-1) at Clinton, N.Y.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 5, TRINITY 0: Five players scored and Tara Connolly made 20 saves as the Polar Bears (9-7-3, 7-4 NESCAC) shut out the Bantams (11-8, 6-5) at Brunswick.

NORWICH 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Christen Harst, Kylie Blasen and Katie Paradis scored for the Huskies (5-11-4, 5-2-1 ECAC) in a loss to the Cadets (17-2-1, 14-0-1) at Gorham.
