STANDISH – Zach O’Brien had 14 points and the St. Joseph’s men’s basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 62-52 victory over Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup Thursday at the Harold Alfond Center.
St. Joseph’s (14-5, 10-3 GNAC) went up 17-4 on a 3-pointer by O’Brien with 7:18 left in the first half, but led just 27-24 at halftime. The Monks finally took control with an 18-7 run during a seven-minute stretch midway through the second half.
O’Brien also had eight assists. Nich Jobin and Chris Petzy each had 12 points.
GORDON 77, UNE 45: David Dempsey scored 14 points as the Fighting Scots (7-13, 6-7 Commonealth Coast) handled the Nor’easters (4-16, 4-9) at Wenham, Mass.
Nevin Lessard led UNE with eight points.
NEW HAMPSHIRE T.I 81, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 79: Anderson Santana scored 15 points with five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a loss for the Seawolves against the Lynx.
Emmanuel Donalson scored 12 points, and Joe Jardine had nine points, five assists and four steals.
(7) DUKE 75, VIRGINIA TECH 60: Austin Rivers scored 18 points, and the Blue Devils (19-3, 6-1 Atlantic Coast) used a 13-2 spurt late in the first half to take control against the Hokies (12-10, 1-6) at Blacksburg, Va.
(10) MURRAY STATE 81, SE MISSOURI STATE 73: Isaiah Canaan scored 32 points as the Racers (22-0, 10-0 Ohio Valley) beat the Redhawks (12-10, 7-3) at Murray, Ky.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UNE 79, GORDON 27: Lauren Rousseau scored 15 points to lead the Nor’easters (16-4, 11-2 Commonwealth Coast) in a rout of the Fighting Scots (7-13, 2-11) at Wenham, Mass.
Beth Suggs added 14 points, Margo Russell had 11 and Liz LeBlanc finished with 10 for UNE. Kelly Coleman had 14 rebounds.
NEW HAMPSHIRE T.I 63, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 57: Katelyn Benson scored 15 of her 21 points during a second-half rally, but the Seawolves came up short against the Lynx at South Portland.
SOUTH CAROLINA 64, (8) TENNESSEE 60: Markeshia Grant scored 27 points and the visiting Gamecocks (18-5, 7-3 Southeastern Conference) earned their first win over the Volunteers (16-6, 7-2) since 1980.
(5) DUKE 75, WAKE FOREST 43: Haley Peters had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Devils (18-3, 9-0 Atlantic Coast) beat the visiting Demon Deacons (12-10, 2-7) for the 37th straight time.
(6) KENTUCKY 82, MISSISSIPPI 41: Freshman Bria Goss scored 19 points for the Wildcats (21-2, 10-0 Southeastern Conference) in a win over the Rebels (12-11, 2-8) at Lexington, Ky.
(9) MARYLAND 86, BOSTON COLLEGE 44: Laurin Mincy and Brene Moseley each scored 16 points to lead the Terrapins (19-3, 6-3 Atlantic Coast) past the Eagles (5-17, 0-9) at College Park, Md.
