LEWISTON — The Franco Center at 46 Cedar St. will host a piano concert by Tamara Poddubnaya, with special guest Raisa Kagramanova, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Advance tickets cost $ 16 for adults or $ 14 for students and seniors. Admission costs $18 the day of the show.

One of Russian’s foremost pianists and a master teacher, Poddubnaya is a distinguished graduate of St. Petersburg’s Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory.

Poddubnaya soon established herself as one of Russia’s foremost keyboard artists and piano teachers. Renowned for her masterful command of a vast repertoire, she has performed to great acclaim in Europe and the United States.

She frequently serves on juries at international piano competitions and keeps a busy schedule of teaching and performing in Russia, the Netherlands, and the United States, where she is professor of piano at the Long Island Conservatory and visiting professor at the Portland Conservatory of Music.

Kagramanova is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and won first prize in the 2008 Maria Yudina Competition, a prestigious competition honoring one of the great Russian (then Soviet) pianists of the 20th century.

Irish Descendants

The Irish Descendants will play a concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the Franco Center Heritage Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Advance tickets cost $20 for adults or $5 for students. Tickets cost $22 on the day of the show.

Formed in the spring of 1990, The Irish Descendants, have been a mainstay in the Newfoundland and Canadian music industry for more than two decades.

In that time the band has performed at least 4,000 shows.

Over the years the line-up of the band has been led under the guidance of front man and founding member, Con O’Brien. The current lineup, for the winter and spring 2011 touring season, includes regulars Robert Kelly from Fogo Island, Newfoundland ( bass and vocals), and veteran St. John’s musician Dave Panting ( guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and vocals), joined by another icon and veteran traditional player, Kelly Russell (fiddle, bouzouki, concertina, whistles and vocals).
