BRUNSWICK — The postseason for high school wrestling arrives on Saturday with the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Championships at Cony High School and the Mid-States at Wells.

Mt. Ararat, Brunswick, Morse and Lisbon are all scheduled to compete.

The KVACs will involve Morse, Mt. Ararat and Brunswick’s Jared Jensen, while Lisbon will grapple in the Mid-states.

Last year, Camden Hills ran away with the KVACs, with Morse fourth and Mt. Ararat eighth.

In the Morse cause, Gary Stevens was a runner-up at 119, while Dylan Harrington, Wyatt Brackett and Michael Alvarez each took third.

Jensen won the 130-pound title.

“As favorites I would put Mt. Blue in A and Camden Hills in B,” said Morse coach Shawn Guest. “We are bringing nine wrestlers. Our goals are to get as many kids placed as possible as we are not in contention for any team championship.

“Maybe if things turn out really well we could have three champions. As and Bs will all wrestle as one tournament.”

Wrestling for Morse should be Kyle Bonti at 106 (11-10), Harrington at 120 ( 30- 5), Stevens at 126 ( 35- 2), Chad Bonti at 132 (5-7), Jake Barrett at 138 (7-16), Brackett at 145 ( 36- 1), Alvarez at 152 ( 3- 2), Michael Armstrong at 160 (11- 22) and Brody Losier at 170 (10-8).

On the Mt. Ararat rosters (with conference and overall MPA records), are Jacob Kenney at 106 (20-3, 31-4), Corey Allen at 113 ( 17- 4, 23- 10), Emory Hudson at 120 (12-14, 20-19), Levi Yeaton at 126 (12- 11, 20-17), Felipe Gunter at 132 (20-10, 28-15), Adam Ewing at 138 (5-19, 11-21), Danny Ewing at 145 (14-13), Joey Burr at 152 (13-13, 14-21), Zach Gray at 170 (7-17, 8-25), Brandon Jusseame (11-10, 22-14) at 195, Chad Pine at 220 ( 13- 3, 14- 6) and Max Mondenedo at 285 (18-8, 29-15).

Jensen, whose father Erick is the Mt. Ararat head coach, practices with the Eagles and will represent Brunswick. His KVAC record is 22-0 and he is 36-0 overall in MPA action.

“Certainly, I think Camden is the favorite,” said Erick Jensen. “ Mt. Blue will be competitive, too. I don’t think we have the manpower this year to compete for a team title.

“We’ll use the KVACs to position ourselves for the regionals. And, maybe we’ll move a couple of kids around to get them a better chance at the regionals.”

Lisbon is in a rebuilding year, said head coach Mark Stevens. “I think we’re a couple of years away before we get back on the radar,” Stevens said. “But, I like our potential … we really don’t have any juniors or seniors.

“I think it will be a battle between Fryeburg and Dirigo,” added Stevens. “If Mountain Valley gets their horses back, they will challenge, too, along with York. We’ll have eight wrestlers and I’m just hoping a couple will place. And, hopefully, we’ll have some wrestlers in the states. We are a young team but we are getting better every day!”

Expected to wrestle for Lisbon are freshmen Coty Berausies at 106 (9-8), JD Martin at 113 (7-14), Mike Demerhest at 132 (1-12) and Josh Collier at 138 (1-18), along with sophomores Zach Stevens at 120 (23-7), Tyler Bard at 126 (9-10), Dylan Dall at 145 (1-13) and David Moore at 160 (11-8).
