
On June 7, 1958, Edna married Raymond C. Harrison in Webster, NY. While raising their family, they relocated several times due to Ray’s job with Lockheed to places in Europe and the U.S. and they moved back to Topsham, ME in 1973. Edna worked at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME from 1974 until her retirement in 1994. Initially, she was a secretary in the Admissions Office. Later, she worked at the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum as secretary to the Curator and museum shop manager. After her retirement from Bowdoin, Edna was a substitute teacher and library volunteer at the Woodside and Williams-Cone schools in Topsham.
Edna Harrison was a member of First Parish Church, Brunswick. She also belonged to their Evening Book Club. Her other affiliations included the Kennebec Art Club, The Friends of Peary’s Eagle Island, The Harpswell Garden Club, The Friends of Merrymeeting Bay, The Bowdoin College Friends, and the Pejepscot Historical Society. She also volunteered at the Topsham polls. Edna was also a member of the Topsham Public Library Board of Trustees for 15 years and became a Trustee Emeritus in 2007. Edna’s hobbies included traveling, reading, photography, scrapbooking, and oil painting. Edna’s husband, Raymond C. Harrison, passed away March 20, 2007, and Edna moved to the Walnutport, PA area in May 2007 to be near her daughter Carolyn and her family.
We have been blessed to have Edna in our lives and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her daughters, Carolyn Schmidt and her husband Scott of Walnutport, PA, and Larissa Kothenbeutel and her husband, Glenn Pelletier of South China, ME. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren Scott and Sarah Schmidt of Walnutport, PA.
A memorial service will be held for Edna Harrison at the First Parish Church in Brunswick and her interment will be at the Bay View Cemetery in Bowdoinham. Both services will be in the summer of 2012 and the details will be announced at a later date.
